Jailbreak

I last used taig to jailbreak my phone (in a virtual machine following these instructions.). Make sure to turn off find my phone and the passcode.

My favorite jailbreak extensions are:

• PowerSoundDisabler
• ResetAllKiller
• SoftwareUpdateKiller
• ToneEnabler
• Assistant Unrestrictor
• OpenSSH - change passwords for root@ and mobile@ (a l p i n e)
• Rsync
• StatusWeather
• iOS Terminal

Adding my own search engine:

Modify the bing choice in /Applications/MobileSafari.app/SearchEnginesFallback.plist to use (snippy).

Modify /Applications/MobileSafari.app/English.lproj/Localizable.strings to add your new search engine name like this:

scp phone:/Applications/MobileSafari.app/English.lproj/Localizable.strings .
plutil -convert xml1 Localizable.strings
emacs Localizable.strings
plutil -convert binary1 Localizable.strings
scp Localizable.strings phone:/Applications/MobileSafari.app/English.lproj/

old stuff

Here’s stuff that I’ve tried and then found better alternatives.

• Reeder (replaced with feedly)
• StatusbarWeather7 - stopped Wunderground working for me. StatusForecast worked better
• StatusBarWeather8 - never showed the right temperature
• StatusForecast - use WOEID Lookup - showed a black square next to wifi in 8.4
• MuteIcon - stopped working with 8.4
